In year 10 PDHPE, we have studied future success, and how it can be achieved through hard work and persistence. One of the highlights of our learning as Newman PDHPE students was the study of Private Health Insurance and Medicare in Australia. This was a ‘real world’ comparison activity that our parents may have engaged in, which challenged our learning as we analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of both forms of Healthcare for a range of different individuals. This was very compelling as we determined whether different individuals should have Private Health or Medicare depending on various health factors such as age, health conditions and physical activity levels. This is ultimately a decision we will have to undertake at some stage in our lives and I am glad we were able to gain insight and develop our health literacy.
