FUNCTION MACHINE
Hello, we are the Newman Mathematics Class for Year 8. We have covered many different topics in this year’s class, and I’m sure that me and my peers have learnt lots. One of the main topics that we covered was the function machine, which assisted us in learning about the different ways a number would change based on certain variables. It helped us learn about all the different ways variables can change the number in certain ways. Function machines have both inputs (the very first number that will go in), the middle section (where the variables shall make their changes) and the output (where the final number will go). We can see how a number changes throughout the variables that affect it.

FORMULAE
School this year was quite hard because of COVID lockdown and we struggled with online learning. In Mathematics, we’ve studied many different topics within the subject such as indices, equations, financial maths, and more. Although the effects of lockdown impacted us a lot and limited our ability to partake in interactive activities, there was one activity in particular that really helped with our learning. This was the extension worksheets our teacher had assigned us. These worksheets were very challenging and would help a lot with memorising formulas. We decided to choose this activity because; it is Newman extension work and it is quite similar to the work we used to do at school but it was still very challenging. While doing these worksheets, if we were ever stuck we could ask a peer for help or ask our teacher for help whether it was on Zoom or face to face. This helped extend our learning and go above and beyond.

LOGIC PROBLEMS
In the Newman Year 10 class, we are often challenged to solve unconventional problems in addition to the general topics. This logic problem is a classic logic situation in which students were asked to decipher the final result through methods of inference and deduction. Check out the video to see how to solve this problem.
